1940's Dodge COE Truck'!

Mid Summer 2020 I was lucky enough to see this beauty in Goderich Ontario!

The owner used the early body and box from the 1950's and incorporated everything into a 1980's Chevy frame and running gear

I think these early COE Truck are the perfect size for a fun ride.  Love to have one!

Using SolidWorks to3D Model

I talked to the owners about making a scaled model of this truck. The couple thought it would be great. I enjoy doing the modeling and trying to challenge my SolidWorks Modeling Skills.

I will document and provide a quick overview on my Youtube channel on the steps that it took to build this model. When finished I will provide a link here.

Using SolidWorks to Render

The modeling: The first image is a quick screen shot from Solidworks, the next is a quick render.

The truck was 3D Printed using an Ender 3 Pro, Ender 5 Pro and an Anycubic Mega S. The Ender 3 Pro Direct drive was set up to print Black Filaflex TPE for the rubber tires. The Anycubic was used to print Silver PLA rims, grill, Black PLA interior, drive wheel and chassis. The Ender 5 was set up with Blue PLA and printed the entire body.

The Resurgence of the 1950 COE Truck Design:
In recent years, the 1950 COE (Cab Over Engine) Truck has seen a remarkable resurgence in interest among vintage vehicle enthusiasts and collectors. Known for its distinctive design where the cab sits over the engine, the COE truck is a classic symbol of mid-20th-century automotive innovation

The Design Philosophy of the 1950s COE Trucks:
The COE design was a response to various practical and regulatory factors during the era. The need for more cargo space and the regulations limiting the length of trucks on the road led to the development of the COE configuration. This design allowed for a larger cargo area within the same overall truck length, making it an efficient solution for transportation needs.

Why the COE Design Was Revolutionary:
The COE trucks offered improved visibility and maneuverability, which were significant advantages over traditional designs. The driver's elevated position provided a better view of the road, while the shorter wheelbase allowed for tighter turning radiuses, essential for navigating the urban landscapes of the post-war era.

The Appeal of the COE Truck Today:
Today, the COE truck's unique appearance, characterized by its flat front and elevated cab, has made it an iconic figure in the realm of vintage vehicles. Collectors and restorers admire the COE for its historical significance and distinctive aesthetic that stands out from contemporary designs.

Conclusion:
While the specific individuals responsible for the design of the 1950 Dodge COE truck remain elusive, the legacy of their work continues to captivate the hearts of vintage vehicle enthusiasts. The COE design is a testament to the ingenuity of automotive engineering during the 1950s, and its resurgence speaks to its enduring appeal and iconic status in automotive history.
